In this role you will report to the Head of Legal UK and will support them with all responsibilities in relation to the provision of legal advice to the UK business, as well as in relation to wider group and strategic projects. You will be responsible for drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements in respect of new and existing services. You will also provide expert, strategic, and creative commercial and regulatory legal advice to business teams. As part of your role, you will research, analyse and monitor new and existing laws that are relevant to our business in the UK (and potentially Europe), in coordination with other group legal colleagues. You will be part of a multi-jurisdictional but connected team of hard-working lawyers in an open, diverse, and friendly environment.
Your Responsibilities
  • Providing accurate, relevant and commercial legal advice in an accessible and commercial manner to all areas of the UK business with particular focus on the commercial teams and commercial contracts with banks, distribution partners and key service providers.
  • Working closely with stakeholders and developing strong relationships with all functions within the business both in the UK and the wider group, to facilitate a timely referral to legal of relevant issues and queries. 
  • Conducting legal horizon scanning and presenting to relevant stakeholders including Senior Management and providing proactive support and advice on aspects of existing and emerging legal issues and risks and specific project support and delivery.
  • Supporting the UK Compliance function with the ongoing review and development of the firm’s policies, procedures, systems and controls to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations and to facilitate better processes, internal accountability and oversight. 
  • Supporting the growth, implementation and embedding of the firm’s Risk Management Framework. 
  • Owning the accurate and appropriate storage of all legal documents within the business and ensuring document management protocols are implemented and understood across the business areas to ensure efficient and accurate document management in the UK.
  • Supporting business development and technology functions with specific legal guidance in relation to the creation of new products and partnerships.
  • Supporting UK governance implementation and UK Board related preparation, filings and presentations. 
  • Engaging and managing, to the extent considered appropriate, external lawyers and advisors.
Your Profile
  • Law degree or equivalent conversion postgraduate qualification.
  • Negotiation and legal drafting skills; preferably with experience in drafting and negotiating contracts within the financial services sector.
  • The ability to find creative solutions to legal and commercial issues, but within acceptable legal and risk frameworks; as well as to understand and take account business drivers and needs.
  • A good grasp of relevant business as well as legal issues, industry developments and legal, social and political trends that may have an impact on the business.
  • The ability to clearly explain legal risks, develop sound mitigation strategies and find acceptable commercial solutions; having a sound judgement on difficult issues.
  • A technical understanding of laws and regulations including working knowledge of or willingness to upskill in relation to FSMA, the MLRs, PSRs latest MLD’s and JMLSG. 
  • Customer-focused, organised, self-driven, collaborative, proactive, and innovative.
  • Adaptability to work in a fast-paced, scaling environment including providing helpful and solution focused advice with a willingness to get involved in the detail at all levels. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to break down complex issues into understandable and accessible forms. 
  • Solid communication skills and fluent in English, both spoken and written.
