Head of AFC Operations (m/f/d)

Festanstellung, Vollzeit · Berlin, Frankfurt a. M., Hamburg, Munich

Team
Join Raisin Bank as Head of AFC Operations and lead the execution of our operational framework to prevent financial crime, including money laundering, terrorism financing, and other criminal abuse of the financial system. Reporting directly to the MLRO (who also serves as Group MLRO), you will manage Raisin Bank’s AFC Operations team and ensure the effective implementation of preventive and detective controls under German law, BaFin Auslegungs- und Anwendungshinweise (AuA), and the EBA Guidelines on ML/TF risk factors.

This is a senior, hands-on role focused on core AFC processes such as customer screening, transaction monitoring, internal investigations, and case reporting. It combines day-to-day control execution with a mandate to raise operational quality, optimise resource use, and improve scenario calibration. The position is instrumental in supporting Raisin’s business model and the integrity of our KYC services across the EU.
Your Responsibilities
  • Operational Ownership: Oversee first-line AFC controls including name screening (sanctions, PEPs, adverse media), transaction monitoring, and internal case investigations. Ensure adherence to the risk-based approach in line with § 5 GwG.
  • Suspicious Activity Reporting (SAR): Ensure high-quality, timely, and complete reporting of suspected ML/TF activity under §§ 43–46 GwG. Supervise decision-making processes, documentation standards, and internal escalation paths.
  • Transaction Monitoring Oversight: Own and evolve the configuration of the transaction monitoring system. Improve scenario logic, threshold calibration, and alert triage to reflect current typologies and risk exposure.
  • Risk-Based Resource Allocation: Implement structured triage and workload management practices to focus resources on higher-risk activity. Improve alert-handling discipline and shorten investigative lead times.
  • Documentation & Audit Readiness: Maintain a fully auditable control trail across screening, monitoring, and investigations. Support internal and external audits, as well as supervisory inquiries.
  • Control Evolution: Collaborate with second-line compliance, risk, and product teams to ensure AFC operational controls evolve in line with new business lines, customer types, and regulatory expectations.
  • Tech & Data Collaboration: Work closely with data and engineering teams to drive operational automation, improve case management workflows, and integrate AFC tooling into the broader platform.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and develop the AFC Operations team, instilling a strong culture of accountability, risk awareness, and quality control. Address performance gaps and strengthen team capabilities.
Your Profile
  • At least 5 years of experience in AFC, financial crime operations, or forensic investigations in a regulated financial institution.
  • Operational expertise in customer screening, transaction monitoring, customer risk scoring, alert investigations, and suspicious activity reporting.
  • Deep knowledge of the German Geldwäschegesetz (GwG), BaFin’s Auslegungs- und Anwendungshinweise (AuA), and EBA ML/TF Risk Factor Guidelines.
  • Strong understanding of the interface between first-line AFC operations and second-line advisory, including control ownership and escalation boundaries.
  • Comfortable working with structured data and case management tools; able to collaborate closely with tech and data teams to improve operational effectiveness.
  • Hands-on leadership style with a track record of setting clear expectations, coaching team members, and managing operational complexity.
  • Fluent in German and English — both are essential for this role.
